Flag Raising

libraryflagraising.jpg

This photo is labeled "Flag Raising, but there is not a flag to be seen. It was taken in 1919, after the addition of the front porch and the room on the left. Fairhope was a dry town, and many Fairhopians were teetotalers including Librarian Lydia Comings. However, that didn't mean you couldn't get a drink in Fairhope, even after the enactment of the Volstead Act of 1919.
