This is a photo of the library from 1909-1910. It now has a covered porch. There has been lots of speculation that these are African American's standing outside the library. Upon closer look, they are not. Marie Howland the first librarian, and the town's founding father E.B. Gaston chose to follow southern customs, and the town was racially divided.
